The Dallas Cowboys surprised many football fans after they picked Jaylon Smith in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft as their 34th overall pick. It was a huge gamble as the player was recovering from a serious left knee injury that he met in his last college game. Finally, the deal became official on 20 May 2016, after Jaylon penned a four-year, $6.49 million contract that included $4.42 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $2.92 million.

Jaylon ringed his professional regular-season debut in 2017, in the Cowboy’s season-opener against the New York Giants. He recorded seven combined tackles and forced a fumble during their 19-3 victory. He signed a five-year, $64 million contract extension with the Cowboys with $35.5 Million guaranteed on 20 August 2019. The deal keeps him with the team until the 2024 season.
