Burt Ward, the 74-year-old actor who played Robin in the award-winning 60s series Batman revealed that he was prescribed medication to shrink his manhood after being told he was too “well-endowed” for wearing the costume on television. Ward, who received his star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, discussed the incident with Page Six and explained that tv morality watch groups were concerned about how he appeared in his costume, that featured a snugly-fitted, green leotard covered by a red vest with his trademark “R” and a yellow cape.
Speaking to Page Six, Burt Ward revealed the Catholic League of Decency was very concerned regarding the bulge in Robin’s costume. He stated the following.
“They thought that Robin had a very large bulge for television. With Adam, they put Turkish towels in his undershorts.”
Ward continued to explain that they sent him to see a doctor to get medication that would “shrink him up.” Burt Ward continued.
“I took them for three days and then I decided that they can probably keep me from having children. I stopped doing that and I just used my cape to cover it.”
The news of Robin’s issue has gone viral and fans were shocked to hear that the studio went to such great lengths to keep Robin viewer appropriate.
Many readily agreed that Burt Ward did the right thing by giving up the medication. He did end up having two children.
