Today, Monday, January 7th, Chrissy Teigen gave her opinion on the recent allegations against R. Kelly stemming from the Lifetime series titled, Surviving R. Kelly. On Twitter, Chrissy said she was in “awe of the strength” as well as the courage of Kelly’s supposed victims.

As it was reported yesterday, Chrissy’s husband, John Legend, made an appearence in the documentary and spoke about Kelly’s supposed transgressions. Of the many individuals who worked alongside the R & B musician, Legend was supposedly one of the few who chose to speak badly about him on camera.

Dream Hampton, the producer, author, and filmmaker who helmed the series, said to reporters from the Detroit Free Press that it was challenging to get celebrities and others to come forward in relation to R. Kelly’s case because of his status in the scene.

I just finished it as well. Proud of john but so in awe of the strength and courage of the women involved, who survived and told their stories. I wish I could be as eloquent as John but – fuck R Kelly. #MuteRKelly https://t.co/629MAyo70z

Hampton said, “that makes John Legend even more of a hero for me,” and Legend then side-stepped the praise, arguing it was such an easy decision because he just refuses to defend “serial child rapists,” referring to Kelly’s alleged sexual relationship with Aaliyah before she died in 2001.

Later on, Chrissy took to her Twitter account again to praise her husband and his eloquence on screen. She added, “F*ck R. Kelly,” and then the popular hash-tag, “#MuteRKelly.”

Allegations surrounding the controversial R & B singer have persisted for many years, however, it appears as though the tide has turned, as more and more celebrities have chosen to speak their mind about him. This docu-series has played a crucial role in the changing of that tide.

Thus far, there haven’t been any more charges levied by the police against R. Kelly following his controversial child-sex case that came out in the early 2000s. On the 13th of June, in 2008, the court and jury found R. Kelly innocent on all 14 counts.

However, in 2017, a report from BuzzFeed News came out detailing additional charges against Kelly, including allegations that he held women in a “sex cult.” This was the beginning of the second batch of problems for the contentious figure.
